Abuja DisCo gives 86 MDAs 10-day ultimatum to settle N47.1bn debts

The management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has issued 86 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, 10 days notice to pay up the N47.1 billion electricity debt they owe or risk disconnection.

The company issued the notice in an advertorial Monday after the MDAs failed to pay up their outstanding balance for December.

According to the statement, “The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) PLC is constrained to do this publication with the details of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with long outstanding unpaid bills for services rendered to them through the provision of electricity supply in that our previous attempts to make them honour their obligations have not achieved the desired result.”


Top of the list of its debtors is the Chief of Defence Staff-Barracks and Military Formations with N12 billion debt followed by the Ministry of FCT with N7.5 billion debt. Next is the Ministry of Finance with N5.4 billion, then Niger State Governor Abuja Liaison Office with N3.4 billion.

Others include the Ministry of State Petroleum, N2.1 billion; Ministry of Education, N1.8 billion; CBN governor, N1.5 billion; Nigeria Police Force, N1.3 billion; Kogi State Governor-Abuja Liaison Office, N1.3 billion; Ministry of Health, N1.1 billion; Clerk of National Assembly, N1 billion; Presidential Villa, N923.8 million, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, N846.1 million, among others.
