Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has once again called for national unity, stating that Nigeria’s diverse culture and religion remain the people’s strength and link.

Senator Akpabio made the statement while speaking to the congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, at a thanksgiving and dedication service for the representative of the Cross River’s southern senatorial district, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, and his family.

Akpabio, who recounted his childhood in many Nigerian States, said inhabitants were proud of their diversity, as seen by the 2023 general election, in which the people elected Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The Senate president asked Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu to lead the people with a “heart of love” by investing in long-term infrastructure that would benefit the people and serve as a legacy of his administration.

“I urge you to administer Cross River State with the heart of love. Provide infrastructure that would stand the test of time so that in years to come, the people will appreciate your service.

“I expect that you would follow in the steps of former Governor Donald Duke, for instance, and give the people a legacy that they would always remember,” he advised.

He praised Deputy Senate President Barau Jubrin for attending the thanksgiving service with 50 other senators and 20 members of the House of Representatives, as well as former Governor Donald Duke and his wife, Onari.
